Recent Research

Alison completed an ESRC funded PhD at Cardiff University in January 2021. The research explored the contestations around the impacts of intensive poultry units in Herefordshire and Shropshire. These two counties have the highest numbers of broiler poultry units in the UK – there has been at least a four-fold increase over the last 20-30 years.

Alison was interested in the multiple impacts of intensive livestock production and the power relations involved in objecting to and defending proposals for further development of the sector.
