Alison has worked in tourism for 20 years, following her Masters degree in Tourism and Leisure at the University of Birmingham.

She initially worked in research and development for two Regional Tourist Boards in Cumbria and Scotland. Her work included: tourism policy, training, visitor management, business advice, information and interpretation and many rural and sustainable tourism initiatives.
Alison then returned to the University of Birmingham to lecture and research in tourism and rural regeneration. She moved to full time consultancy in 2002 with ECOTEC Research and Consulting.
In 2004 she became the first Tourism Development Officer for South Shropshire, close to home. Here she returned to a more developmental role working with local community groups to develop tourism projects and managing an EU grant scheme assisting tourism businesses. Priority areas included: sustainable rural tourism, walking, cycling and equestrian tourism, heritage interpretation and local food and drink.
Alison set up as a freelance consultant in 2006 and has carried out a wide range of studies both on her own and with other colleagues.

Professional Activities
Alison has been a member of the Tourism Society for 15 years and is a member of their Consultants Group which has an agreed code of conduct for tourism consultants.
She is on the National Trust's West Midlands Committee and the Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership Board.
Alison was external examiner for Bournemouth University’s Tourism Masters Programmes from 2001-2006.
Alison recently established the 360 Tourism Consulting Network with a range of other freelance colleagues. Between them the network can put together bespoke teams for any tourism related project.
